An Evening with Danny Ramadan

Join us for an unforgettable evening with award-winning author Danny Ramadan on February 6th, 2025, from 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Forks Market in the upstairs 2nd-floor event room.
Danny's memoir, Crooked Teeth (published 2024), is the inspiration for this conversation toward a more just and sustainable world. It details Danny's personal journey as a queer Syrian refugee.
"Did you pick up this memoir with an expectation based on your preconceived notion of what a refugee is, what a gay man is, what a Syrian is? Are you willing to let go of those notions at the turn of this page and trust me in the telling of my own story? Are you willing to let go of the simple narrative of here is 'good' and there is 'bad' when it comes to refugees arriving in Canada? Will you trust me, as I am about to trust you?" - excerpt from Crooked Teeth
Faith Fundal, host of CBC's Up to Speed and They & Us, will guide the conversation.
If you haven't read Crooked Teeth yet, don’t worry! You can enjoy the company and conversation, and there will be copies for sale courtesy of Whodunit Mystery Bookstore.
This special event will make you reflect on belonging and the complexities of our personal journeys. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided. We look forward to seeing you there!
Crooked Teeth is featured on MCIC’s Reading List for Global Citizens 2025. The book challenges the typical view of refugees and connects with key global goals like Gender Equality, Reduced Inequalities, and Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions. It highlights the struggles of women and girls in refugee situations, calls for more equality, and stresses the importance of strong systems and peace to protect vulnerable people.
