Manitobans continue to care deeply about the expanding crisis in the Middle East, most recently with the conflict spreading into Lebanon which is facing a humanitarian emergency. Many of MCIC’s members are actively responding to the worsening humanitarian crisis to support civilians affected by the war in Gaza, Lebanon, and other parts of the region.
In addition to supporting the humanitarian response, MCIC adds its voice to the call for:
- an immediate ceasefire and cessation of violence
- ensure unrestricted humanitarian access
- ensure the protection of civilians as well as humanitarian personnel
- immediate release of all hostages
- and respect for international law
As the humanitarian crisis intensifies and spreads to other regions, many MCIC members are involved in efforts to provide lifesaving medical care and basic needs such as food and water to civilians displaced by the violence. Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors without Borders and UNICEF are both working in Gaza and Lebanon to provide emergency medical care and aid. Other MCIC members are coordinating efforts with their in-country partners and as part of the Humanitarian Coalition or the Canadian Foodgrains Bank. In addition, many members are advocating for an end to the conflict.
